Pipit Launches Music Platform Where "The Fan Becomes the Algorithm"

Built exclusively for human independent artists, Pipit introduces customizable subscription models and direct-to-artist monthly funding

VALPARAISO, Ind., Nov. 5, 2026 — Pipit, a new independent-only music platform, officially opened to music fans today, challenging traditional streaming with a catalog that excludes generative-AI-created music and a discovery experience controlled by fans rather than black-box algorithms.

Unlike mainstream platforms that rely on passive listening and massive major-label catalogs, Pipit is designed specifically for intentional music discovery. Through customizable subscriptions starting at $3.99 a month, fans use nine distinct musical categories to build their own "Discover Waves" and choose exactly which independent artists receive their financial support.

At Pipit, fans do more than press play. They decide what music they want to discover, which human creators they want to back, and where the artist-support portion of their monthly membership goes.

Pipit's Support membership starts at $3.99 per month. Fans choose an independent artist they want to support, and $2 of that monthly membership goes directly to that artist. During the paid month, supporters can stream that artist's catalog on Pipit as part of the relationship.

Beyond direct fan support, artists also earn $0.005 for every qualifying discovery stream through Pipit's discovery memberships. Streams of an artist's catalog by fans currently supporting that artist are included in their Support membership and do not generate additional per-stream royalties.

Each month, fans stay in control. They can keep supporting the same artist, or move their $2 monthly support to another artist they want to back. The model gives fans a simple way to turn listening into meaningful recurring support while giving independent artists a more predictable connection to the audiences they have already built.

Pipit also offers custom memberships that let fans shape their monthly experience. Fans can choose how many Feathers, Pipit's $1 credits for supporting independent artists, they want included each month, from $2 to $8, and direct them to artists they discover and enjoy. Rather than paying into a subscription with little visibility into where the money ultimately goes, Pipit lets fans direct a portion of their membership.

Fans also choose their monthly discovery/streaming time instead of paying for unlimited listening they may never use. Pipit is designed around intentional music discovery, not hours of passive "music wallpaper." Pipit's Discover Wave gives listeners direct control over music discovery. Pipit defines every song across nine musical categories: Genre, Flow/Journey, Mood, Sound, Vocals, Lyrics, Tempo, Studio/Production, and Region. Fans use those same categories to create their own Discover Waves.

Instead of receiving a black-box recommendation telling them what to hear next, listeners decide what matters and shape the discovery experience themselves. The fan becomes the algorithm. As new independent music is added to Pipit, songs that match a fan's existing Discover Wave can enter that discovery experience over time, keeping it fresh without taking control away from the listener.

Pipit's Backstage Pass helps fans & artists discover each other based on more than sound alone. Artists and fans answer a series of questions about their interests, personality, and relationship with music. Pipit then creates a compatibility percentage match without revealing either person's individual answers.
